How to add ADAS Features to Your Car?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have become standard in most new vehicles. They offer features like collision avoidance, lane keeping, and blind spot monitoring. With them, driving has become easier and a lot safer.

But what if your car is a little older, or your model didn’t come with all those high-tech perks? The good news is, you don’t have to buy a new car to enjoy the benefits of ADAS.

In this article, we’ll show you how easy it is to upgrade your current vehicle with “EYES”, a triple-camera driving assistance accessory that brings multiple ADAS features to your car.

AKEEYO EYES – The AI Driving Assistant for Cars

EYES is a comprehensive camera system designed to mimic the sharpness and responsiveness of the human eye. With three cameras, two mounted for the expanded front view and one at the back, it provides the footage for complete safety on the road.

To ensure top-notch image quality, AKEEYO has equipped EYES with premium Sony STARVIS sensors: the IMX675 for telephoto lenses and the IMX335 for the wide-angle lens. This combination delivers crisp 2K resolution images, with a long detection range of up to 50 meters and a field of view expanded to 135°, surpassing the natural human vision of about 124°.

Rather than showing constant video feeds, the camera footage is processed by advanced AI algorithms that analyze the environment in real time. This AI instantly alerts you to potential hazards and timely warnings.

ADAS Features in EYES

EYES might look like a compact dash cam, but it’s far from an ordinary cam. It is an AI-powered system that brings modern driver-assistance features to almost any vehicle, with just front and rear cameras. These features are triggered automatically as you drive the car.

The first four features in the following list are governed by the capabilities of the front-camera pair. They appear as alert icons on the display screen of EYES.

Forward Collision Warning

If you’re closing in too quickly on the vehicle ahead, the system alerts you. It kicks in once you’re driving above ~20 km/h and detects if the gap drops below ~6.5 meters. The aim is to slow you down before an accident occurs.

Pedestrian Detection

This feature looks out for people stepping onto the road. It’s always active at lower to moderate speeds and warns you early if there's a risk of hitting someone.

Lane Departure Warning

This activates automatically when you’re over 32 km/h and the camera picks up lane markings. If you drift out of your lane unintentionally, it will prompt you with a warning, helping prevent side-swipe incidents or veering off the road. It only takes about two minutes to auto-calibrate when you start driving.

Forward Vehicle Start Alarm

When you’re stopped. Say, at a red light, the system notifies you when the vehicle in front begins moving. It’s a gentle nudge that keeps you alert; very useful in stop-and-go traffic.

AI Blind Spot Detection System

This system utilizes the rear-mounted camera and uses AI to pick up blind spots that are not in the vision of your side mirrors. You’ll get a red spot warning (on screen) if it’s unsafe to change lanes. It detects cars coming from ~8–14 meters behind and even gives you rear-collision alerts if a vehicle approaches too quickly.

Fatigue Prevention

If you’re on a long drive ahead. EYES reminds you to take a break after 1, 2, or 4 hours of continuous driving. It doesn’t nag, it just suggests a pause to stay fresh and safe.

24H Parking Assistance

When hardwired to your vehicle, EYES doesn’t go to sleep when you turn off the engine. It stays alert, recording continuously and automatically capturing any impact, scratch, or suspicious movement around your car while parked. So, you get a digital security guard in addition to an assistant driver.

How to add ADAS to a Car with AKEEYO EYES?

You can enjoy all these advanced features in your car, and the best part? Installation doesn’t require any complicated setup. Basically, there are two options: one is plug-and-play, and the other is via hardwiring.

Option 1: Plug-n-Play Setup (No Hard Wiring Required)

This is the default setup that works straight out of the box. All you need to do is mount the cameras, connect them, and power up via your vehicle’s lighter socket. Here’s how:

1. Mount the Front Camera

Clean the windshield area behind your rearview mirror for the best view. Stick on the electrostatic film (included), peel the protective layer, and press the mount firmly into place.

2. Install the Rear Camera

Mount it on the rear window using the included adhesive. Route the cable along the headliner to the front, hiding it using the trim tool. Connect the rear cam with the front one. Use the provided clips or tuck cables into trim panels for a neat look.

3. Power It Up

Plug the power cable into your car’s cigarette lighter adapter. That’s it! The system will turn on automatically when the engine starts.

Option 2: Hardwired Setup (Enables 24H Parking Monitoring)

If you want EYES to keep watching your car even while it’s parked, go for the hardwire setup. It allows continuous recording triggered by motion or impact.

The camera installation process is the same. You’ll need an additional hardwire kit (sold separately). Connect the kit to your vehicle’s ACC (ignition) and constant power fuse using fuse taps. After that, enable parking monitoring in the settings and choose your preferred mode (shock-triggered or time-lapse recording).

For further details regarding features and usage of AKEEYO EYEs, go through its user manual. Everything is illustrated with great detail.

Don't let your car's age hold you back from the safety and convenience you deserve. Give EYES a try, and experience the next level of driving confidence. Your car and your future self will thank you!
